Art Nouveau on the Alföld: Kecskemét, Kiskunfélegyháza, Szeged, Palics, Szabadka – 3 days tour

Program:

1st day: Meeting at 8:00 am in front of the House of the Hungarian Art Nouveau, Budapest (Honvéd street 3.,Budapest, Dist.V) Having breakfast together in the Art Nouveau style Coffee House of the buliding, getting familiar with the guide, the program, the itinerary and the special line of the Hungarian Art Nouveau, the Art Nouveau of the Alföld. Optional possiblity: (ca. 30 min) visiting the Museum of the Hungarian Art Nouveau. Departure at 9:00 am with the oldtimer luxury limousin to Kecskemét. During the transfer listening to stories about Hungarian history’s from the 19th century that substantiated the art nouveau style. Arrival to Kecskemét around 11:00 am. Visiting the “Capital of the Puszta”,  Kecskemét. Walking by the the Townhall, then after a short walk photo break in the towncenter’s art nouveau style buildings (Press House, Katona József High School, buliding on the Szabadság square, Reformed School, Youth Home, etc…), then visit in the Cifra-Palace, what is an emblematic building of the style and the town. Visiting the palace. Optional lunch on Kecskemét. Travelling to  Kiskunfélegyháza. Photo break and visit in the huge and richly decorated Tow Hall. Travelling to Szeged, the special town of the Alföld. Check-in in the hotel. Early evening sightseeing walk in the town, that was perished in 1879 by the flood, but rebuilted systematically. Walk in the down town (planned similar to Paris downtown), on the  Széchenyi-square, in the Kárász utca, what is an elegant pedestrians precinct of the town. In the evening optional dinner in Szeged (suggested possiblity: tasting the famous szegedi fish soup in a fish restaurant),  other optional programs: watching a show of the Outdoor Plays of Szeged, or wellness program in the Aquapolis Waterpark.  Night in Szeged.

2nd day: Breakfast in the hotel. Travelling to Southland, to the center of the Hungarian Royalty, Szabadka, what was the second biggest town of Hungary (after Budapest) in the 19th century (attention: passport needed, the town belongs to Serbia nowdays). Arrival around 11:00 am to the art nouveau style town. Photo break, then visit in the Town Hall, walking on the main square and towards the railway station. Optional coffee break. On the back way visit at the Bath building (Art Nouveau style) by Lake Palicsi. Optional lunch in Palics. Arrival to Szeged around 16-17:00 pm. Photo break at the Domen, and in the university disctrict. Short free program in Szeged. Optional programs  : dinner in the downtown, or watching a show of the Outdoor Plays of Szeged, or wellness program in the Aquapolis Waterpark.  Night in Szeged.

3rd day: Breakfast in the hotel. Art Nouveau walk in Szeged. Visiting the Gróf-Palace, the special sized and beautiful synagogue, then walk between the art nouveau styled houses to the Reök Palace, visit in the museum. Optional lunch or coffee in the Reök-Palace, or on the Kárász street. Early afternoon travelling to Hódmezővásárhely with the oltimer luxury limousin. Sightseeing tour in the art nouveeau downtown, then diner in Hódmezővásárhely. Travelling to Budapest, arrival around 21:00 pm.

Travelling to the Gresham Palace (Ede Telcs, Béla Lajta, Gyula Jungfer) passing by the Post Office Savings Bank.( Ödön Lechner, national art nouveau). Crossing over the Chain Bridge, photo break at the Gellért Hotel and Bath’s art nouveau style building, taking pictures inside the bath with visitor ticket, 15 min). Crossing over the former József Ferencz Bridge (Today: Szabadság) until the Market Hall, listening to stories about the Facture Zsolnay, which produced the glazed ceramic tiles and the special pirogranit coatings. Travelling to the Museum of Industrial Art, the prominent art nouveau style creation of Ödön Lechner. 1 hour visit in the museum. Riding on the Great Boulvard, listening to stories about Budapest Coffeehouses. Travelling to District Kőbánya to the Temple St. László, visit in the temple. Photo break in front of the Hungarian Geological Museum (Ödön Lechner), optional possibility: visiting the buliding.  Passing by the art nouveau bulidings : embassies,  Institution of Blind People, then photo break at the art nouveau style entrance of the Zoo and by the Restaurant Gundel.
